Cardinal Manning Center (CMC)
CMC is a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row area at 231 Winston Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013. The CMC offers a comprehensive program for homeless men transitioning off the streets and into housing through transitional housing and intensive case management services. Some of the services at the CMC are the:
Men’s Advancement Program (MAP)
The Men’s Advancement Program (MAP) engages men in a transitional living opportunity that includes case management services in an effort to provide support and direction for location and maintenance of permanent housing.
These working poor are unable to save enough money without the assistance of this program to locate and maintain housing. Program components include a structured means of saving and goal-setting that includes vocational and educational goals. Individuals are involved in weekly case management, job training, counseling and group meetings.
Participants are expected to participate in chores and duties that contribute to the shelter as part of the program. Some goals include debt reduction, savings plans, housing, education and employment plans.
Center Community Services
The CMC provides center community services that offer support to assist individuals in meeting basic needs, obtaining housing, employment, and educational goals. The community center provides services created to enhance and individual’s capacity toward positive change. Services include education, information, and support in these areas:
- Health and mental health: nutrition, exercise, awareness, etc.
- Women’s Issues:
- Men’s Issues
- Legal clinics: immigration, etc.,
- Housing: Monthly housing fair, tenant/owner rights and responsibilities
- Financial literacy
- Community involvement
- Adult education and employment
- Small business development
- Computer lab enhancement
- Socialization efforts
Our services include access to case management, housing fairs, immigration clinics, therapeutic groups, computer lab, and a variety of other supportive services.
Emergency Men’s Transition Services
CMC provides emergency beds and case management services to men living on the street. Many are considered chronically homeless or have needs that make it difficult for them to retain housing. By engaging these men in case management while assisting them to connect with community partners who provide housing to these individuals we are working to change their lives by assisting them to transition from the streets into permanent housing options. It is in this program that clients receive comprehensive array of services that include case management, referrals, education, basic life skills, and more.
